what is going on in ai?!

THE PROBLEM WITH AI NEWS

There’s no shortage of AI content. There’s a shortage of AI content worth reading.

Every week brings another model launch, another breathless prediction, another LinkedIn post telling you everything is about to change. Most of it is noise. Some of it is marketing dressed as insight. And almost none of it answers the question you’re actually asking: what does this mean for me, my workplace and society?

My Beyond the Bandwagon Substack exists to answer that question, clearly, honestly, and without pretending the answer is simple when it isn’t.

WHAT YOU GET

A regular look at what AI is doing to work, money, society, creativity, and daily life, written by someone with 4 decades of systems experience and zero interest in excitement or alarm.

This isn’t a news roundup. It isn’t prompt tips. It isn’t “10 AI tools that will blow your mind.” It’s one clear piece of thinking about something that matters, explained in language that respects your intelligence and your time.

Some weeks that’s about regulation and what it means for your business. Some weeks it’s about what happens to jobs, skills, and professional identity when the tools change faster than people can adapt. Some weeks it’s about the ethics debates. Some weeks it’s about the stuff that affects you personally: AI scams, copyright, the products you’re already buying that now have “AI-powered” stamped on the box, even though it’s not really an enhancement.

Ethics. Psychology. Economics. Sociology. With enough tech to keep it aligned and enough plain English to keep it readable.

Beyond the Bandwagon: the Podcast

Same name, same thinking, different format. 8–12 minutes of calm, clear audio about AI — beyond the hype and the headlines.

Each episode takes one question about AI and pulls it apart properly. Who benefits. Who carries the risk. What’s actually changing. What the common advice gets wrong. And what you can actually do about it — not a checklist, but a way of thinking about the problem that holds up when the specifics change.

No guests trying to sell you something. No breathless predictions. No “AI will change everything” filler. Just me, thinking out loud about the stuff that matters, in a way that’s designed to leave you clearer than when you pressed play.

The podcast is for the same people the newsletter is for — but for the days when you’d rather listen than read. On the commute, on a walk, during the twenty minutes before a meeting when you want something in your head that’s actually useful.
